If you have decided that the baby model castings is a good option for you then the next step is to search out ones that suit you and your child. Unlike the baby modeling agencies, the casting calls are often advertised both locally and on the web so should be relatively easy to find. There are however two points that I would note before you attend:

1. Make sure that you choose casting calls that are fairly local to you unless it is for a really major campaign. The reason for this is that the casting call is in a particular region for a purpose and you may need to travel back and forth quite a lot if you land some work.

2. Check out the reputation of the casting agents if at all possible. As with baby modeling agencies there are scam artisits out there that will charge to be considered or will cheat you on commissions and the like which will mean even if you win at the casting call, you really lose.

An area of the baby modeling industry that is often overlooked at the outset is baby modeling castings. Yet these are an excellent opportunity as they provide a different forum than the usual baby picture contests or baby modeling agencies.

As you will probably already be aware, the best agencies are often in big cities and thus can be restrictive for many parents and babies, while a picture contest will not allow the child to be see in person and the full depth of their personality taken into consideration. As such the baby modeling castings provide a middle ground where you can really showcase the talents of your child without needing to be with an agency.

One of the most nerve racking moments for me was when we were invited to our first baby modeling casting calls.  We did not know what to expect or whether this would be the start of something great or the end before it had even begun.

But set your mind at ease because it is all very straightforward.  The main thing is to be prepared and no matter what you do just don’t be late!  As long as you have a selection of clothing available and your baby is in a good mood then you will pretty much be like every other mother there and put yourself in the best possible position to suceed.

They are however still very important.  It is here that you need to convince the clients that your baby is the one for the job so try to make sure you dress your child appropriately for the planned job and is well slept and ready to sit still in front of some very strange characters…

Juried photo competitions are very much like the usual baby modeling photo competitions except that instead of the decision being made by one or two judges from the company, the decision is given into the hands of the jury/the voting public.  This has a huge impact on whether or not your child will be picked as the images required will need to be different and you will need to realise that what other parents and readers will be looking for in a winning baby may be very differnt from what the judges think.

This is a very subjective field, but if you have some pictures that hold a very wide appeal then this form of competition may be idea.  Plus, it means that you can get into the winning ranks where in other competitions you would not be considered appropriate for the job.  Just think about X-factor and the number of contestants that have stayed even though their actual singing is dire.

The number 1 baby modeling contest available would have to be the cute kid photo contest and is an absolute must if you are going to go down this route of contests.  The reasons for this are numerous, but in general:

• The major prize is $25,000 and there are also earlier prizes that can also be secured.
• There is a VERY large network of people involved in this website and the competition so it can provide you with an excellent group of contacts and other parents that you can talk to and with whom you can compete.
• Due to the sheer size and reputation of this site any baby or child on it has massive exposure and a very good chance of not only taking the $25,000 but also gaining further work from this endeavor.

Whatever your reason for joining this website you will not be disappointed with the support, the ease of use or the rewards.

For those of you that have very talented children or are more interested in the commercial side of the baby modeling field, then you may want to search out some baby talent agents that can provide you with the focus and attention that this needs.  Yes, the big agencies are good at modeling, but they are not as red hot on the talent side in most cases so an agent will offer more support and connections for this field.  It does however depend on the talents you are trying to sell and also on the age of the child.

There are quite a few of these agents out there but as this is a more specialised field there is not always as much work so beware.  On the flip side if your child is particularly talented then they can secure less but higher paying gigs in return.

Is your baby not only beautiful but talented as well?  Is there something about you and your baby that sets you apart from the other children?  If there is some serious baby talent then you should use that to your advantage as well.  In this industry there are thousands of babies and children that are pretty much the same.  Blue eyes, blonde hair and a cheeky grin can be a great asset for some, but it also puts you in one of the largest demographics of baby models.  So in order to ensure YOU are getting the work that you want then you should try to differentiate yourself from the competition.  One of the ways to do this is to highlight any skills that your child has that may be useful to the photographer.

As your child is obviously quite young these skills can be anything from crawling to speaking and everything in between.  It may just be that they want a very small but advanced child and you can offer that.  So pay attention and market whatever you can!

If you want to get into baby modeling then you definitely want to get your baby into baby modeling commercials as well.  These go hand in hand as many commercials will also have print media to go with them so you end up with two jobs rather than just the one.

On top of this the baby commercials often pay a lot more than standard photographic work.  However be warned that this type of work can be quite hard on your child as there is a lot more going on in the set.  Also, due to the costs involved to produce a commercial there is a lot more time pressue involved so you had better be sure that your baby has the temperament and disposition to cope with all of these elements.

The big agencies get a lot of this work so if you are interested then you should speak to them and see what is required to get involved at this level as well.
