If you want to get into baby modeling then you definitely want to get your baby into baby modeling commercials as well.  These go hand in hand as many commercials will also have print media to go with them so you end up with two jobs rather than just the one.

On top of this the baby commercials often pay a lot more than standard photographic work.  However be warned that this type of work can be quite hard on your child as there is a lot more going on in the set.  Also, due to the costs involved to produce a commercial there is a lot more time pressue involved so you had better be sure that your baby has the temperament and disposition to cope with all of these elements.

The big agencies get a lot of this work so if you are interested then you should speak to them and see what is required to get involved at this level as well.

One of my friends recently went for a job as a mother and baby modeling duo and I thought it was worth to note this here as another potential avenue for those of you mothers out there that would like to get into the industry yourselves, or just for those that would like to have something to remember the time together when your baby is older.

The best part of this is that it offers an opportunity for you to provide the agency with another selling point for your child.  This will set you apart from other babies and make you more attractive to a photographer.  It also has the added benefit of meaning that you can hold your baby or be close by and provide a calming influence that is always excellent in a shoot.

Another BIG consideration when you are looking into the world of baby modeling is to look at your location and where the local baby modeling agencies can be found.  It is a basic fact that most of the big reputable agencies are located in big cities as this is where the photographers and clients are also based.  Because of this you may find that your LOCAL baby modeling agent is 50 miles away rather than around the corner, and if this is the case you will need to be prepared to travel long distances on a very regular basis if you are to make a go of it.

For those of you that live in a big city like New York, London, Sydney or LA then this will be plenty of options available, but for those of you outside these zones you will be restricted in who is available to represent your baby and also how much work they will be able to find you that is local to you.

If you find a good one though then you may find that there are less clients and the local work that is available can be yours for the taking.

Does your baby often receive compliments on their looks or personality (not including relatives)?  Do they make the people around them smile?  Does YOUR baby have what it takes to be the next big thing in baby modeling?  If so, then modeling for babies may just be a perfect fit for your child.

A good baby model will earn a decent living, have fun and even make friends as they grow up in the industry.  It can also often give them self-confidence.

However, the second question you have to ask yourself is whether YOU have what it takes to commit to such a venture.  Very much like adult modeling, the baby industry can be tough on parent and child so you need to consider whether you both have the temprament for this work and also the endurance.

The main areas to consider are:

1.  The days can be quite long and tiring and you may be standing for hours on end working with your child and the photographer.  Are you up for the challenge?

2.  To secure the top jobs you are likely to need to travel long distances which can cost your time and money and may be difficult for a working parent.  Obviously you do not need to take these jobs, but it can be the difference between an average and highly successful baby modeling career.

3.  You both need to have an outgoing, happy temperament overall as your child is usually going to be smiling a LOT, and you will need to be patient and able to communicate with quite a number of people on a regular basis.  A shy parent will find all of this interaction incredibly draining.

4.  Is this about money, fame or a laugh.  Go into it knowing what you want to achieve, but make sure that the focus is on your baby first and foremost.
