One of the best ways to get your baby noticed is via baby photo competions. These are often set up by baby and parenting magazines and baby modeling agencies themselves so offer both exposure to the public and to the professionals as a double whammy. On top of this there is usually a cash prize which can equate to thousands of dollars! In other words you can’t really go wrong.
The downside to this is that there will be hundreds if not thousands of other parents out there with the same goal in mind, and there will often be some impressive one off talent out there. So it is important that you take the time to create a baby modeling portfolio. A well designed portfolio will give you an excellent chance of winning, and more importantly of gaining the attention of the right contacts in the industry as these will be your bread and butter for future earnings. If this is a magazine competition there is also the chance of being on the front cover which will offer further exposure.
As there are dual purposes you will want to keep within the guidelines listed on my earlier post about portfolios and provide a good quality close up headshot and a also a full length image. But you will also want to amp up the personality side of things and ensure you have some real crowd pleasers too.
The best pictures are big expressions – be it concern, hard thinking or just a wide eyed laugh, an animated image will capture your audiences attention and enable them to really see the ‘winning’ personality of your child. I also like photos that focus on the baby only and have no distracting backgrounds. Think a big fluffy rug ans nothing else in the shot with a sleeping baby. Beautiful.
