If you are considering whether your baby needs an agent or whether you should go it alone, here are some useful thoughts to think through when deciding on baby modeling agents:
1. An agent offers experience. A good agent knows the market, they will know how best to present your baby, which jobs for which they should be put forward (saving you time on worthless auditions), and right off whether your baby has what it takes to even be a model.
2. An agent has connections. As with any modeling or acting gig it is very rarely just about talent but about being put in front of the right people for the right jobs. I am sure there are 100s of actors out there just as good as Brad Pitt and just as attractive but he got a lucky break while some of the others are waiting tables. An good agent is on the ball of new opportunities and gets you in there when needed.
3. An agent costs money by way of commission. This means that for every shoot that is undertaken the modeling agents will take a cut. This varies from agent to agent so check out the conditions before signing anything.
4. An agent is fast and constant. The right connections mean that there is constant streams of work on offer and you can sometimes have your first job within days.
5. On your own you have more flexibility in what work you would like to put your baby in for and also when and where jobs will take place.
6. If you can garner some publicity via baby picture contests or in other work you can use this to promote your child directly to the advertisers or photographers. Get a good photographer on side and you can have your pick of jobs without a cent in commission.
As you can see there are benefits either way. Do what suits you best and make sure you keep enjoying it.
